Below are abridged versions of the listings that have sold through The List. I'll keep the listings here for reference, but also because I know everyone likes pretty tackle photos. Ha.
Seriously though, these pieces of tackle do represent a significant part of the history of our sport, and as long as I'm able, I'll try to maintain the information. I wasn't able to save some of the very first things that passed through The List, but I'll do my best going forward.

Semi-Hollow, EC-built rod with patent number. This is a transition-period rod from the mid- to late-1950s, built by EC while Tony Maslan was active in the shop and has some Maslan cosmetic attributes. Very good condition after some wrap repair work by Jim Clarkson. Has some varnish lift in a few places that should eventually be addressed, but no bamboo is exposed or wraps compromised. Ferrules are smooth and fit well. Marysville reel seat. Bright guides and tip top. Agate stripping guide. Original tube and brown replacement bag, no hang tag. Actual measured weight is 4.0oz. It's an amazing, delicate 5wt in my hands, though some have liked it with a 4DT. Beautiful, classy, light trout rod that has great mojo. Hard to let this one go, but I now have some overlap in my Powell trout lineup.

9' 3/2 6.0 oz. Special Streamer with a diamond stamp (1936 - second year of the Streamer being a formal model). Such a neat rod. Full length and straight and an absolute rocket launcher with a WF7. And no, I don't think I underlined the rod with a 7wt, though it will certainly handle an 8 as well. I had almost the entire line off the reel, and the rod didn't bog down. I reached my limit before the rod reached its. Original bag and tube with 40% label (tube may be later), but no hang tag. This rod had a very sympathetic refinish at some point in the past, and from what I can tell, the grip was cleaned and the signature wrap was possibly redone. Everything else looks original with a light varnish overcoat. Hard to let this one go, but I'm heavy on 7wts at the moment.

8'0" Wright & McGill Granger Victory (GV8040); 3/2; 4 oz. This is an interesting rod in EX++ to N/M condition. The rod appears to have been professionally restored, but may just be a well-preserved and very late (circa 1954) example. It is wrapped in B&O jasper (no tipping) and bears two "Granger Victory" ink stamps, but no Wright & McGill stamp. The rod has nine black snake guides like higher grade Grangers, but no ghosting from previous guide placements. The up-locking nickel silver reel seat is the very last version used by W&M, and thus the markings are very light (with one tiny, tiny dent ~1/16”). Ferrules are tight and perfect. Wright & McGill aluminum tube (no label) and original bag. For 4/5 wt. lines.

8'6" Wright & McGill Granger Special (GS8642); 3/2; 4.5 oz. When was the last time you saw a BRAND NEW, vintage Granger? This GS8642 is very Special indeed. Never fished or even lawn cast. Original plastic protector on grip. Stamp/writing runs toward the grip. I doubt a reel has ever been mounted. Interestingly, and most unusually, this Special is wrapped in yellow/gold rather than the usual ‘snappy’ green! The tube is even in EX++ condition with original silver/green label. Bag is also original with a very little wear at top from being in the tube all these years. A fabulous, collector quality 8642 5 wt. Granger!

A very special Thompson 100. This reel was owned by well-known Catskills fly tier and shop owner Harry Darbee. As outlined in the provenance letter from Walt Carpenter, Mr. Darbee sent this Thompson back to the factory to be converted to wind lefty. (Not sure if this would have been to the original Thompson factory, or to R.L. Winston. Doug Merrick, Al Talbot and others at Winston eventually took over the remaining stocks of Thompson parts and continued to assemble reels.) The conversion is quite clever. The handle was removed from winding plate side. A second winding plate was added to the spool, complete with handle and spool-retaining screw, allowing the reel to be used lefty. The original check and brake drag has not been altered. This reel functions as every other Thompson and has an ingenious drag. Only one other Thompson converted to left hand wind is known. Mechanical condition is excellent, cosmetics show honest use. Letter of provenance in Walt Carpenter's hand is included. A truly special Thompson. Only selling because it goes unused, as I wind righty.

Reels, Inc.; San Francisco-era Thompson 100. 3-1/4". Excellent mechanical condition. Cosmetics show honest use. The Thompson drag is well engineered and way more substantial than you would ever need for most trout fishing, but perfect for large trout in heavy water or summer-run steelhead. Will take up to a 7DT.

A great example in the largest and hardest to find 100 yard size. Clean and tight with moderate scratching on the ebonite side plates. Tool marks on the pillar screws and oil cap. Two pillar screws have been replaced with original old-stock Pflueger screws. Very slight left-hand bias, but will wear in to whatever hand is used. A fine example of this scarce reel.

A neat little user-grade 3-1/8” Hardy Uniqua. Decent amount of leading remains on the frame, but a previous owner tried to re-black the spool and did a pretty fair job. Horseshoe latch. Good check with sharp gear teeth. Duplicated, engageable spares. Slight end play that can be fixed with a bit of Hot Sauce grease. Lots of miles left on this little vetran.

This is as crisp and light-in-hand of a dry fly rod as you’ll find by any maker. Perfect with a Peach DT4 and a long, fine leader, A.J.’s Hollowbuilt Signature Dry Fly taper is a modern classic. A.J. recently (and deservedly) retired, so new Thramer rods are no longer coming to market.
Darkly flamed cane with color preserved antique gold wraps. Agate stripper and bright guides. Blued stepdown ferrules show some slight bluing loss. Ferule fit is perfect. Half-Wells grip, Dickerson-style downlocking seat with Koa filler. There are two small marks on the spacer from mounting a reel. Original tube and bag.

This is one of the finest trout tapers I've fished by a modern maker, and the rod Dennis is known for. I have said in person and online that if I had to keep only one rod for all-around trout fishing, this would be the one. And I mean that. If life changes and all other rods need to find new homes, I'll keep enough cash aside to have Dennis build me another.
This Cascade is an 8'er and I had Dennis dress it like a classic pre-WWII trout rod. It's as handsome as they come and has antique blued hardware and narrow cork rings. Bellinger seat with cedar spacer, Bellinger step down ferrules. The bluing is so nice I do the same on the rods I build.

Here’s an 8’6” 3/2 Special Browntone dry fly rod weighing 4.30 ounces. Serial dated to 1947, and lovely with a 4 or 5 weight line. My preference was certainly for a 4DT Peach. Crisp dry fly action.
Measures .435” at the grip. Ferrules are 16/64 (.250” slide) and 9.5/64 (.150” slide). This rod has extremely fine tips measuring .056”... a 3-1/2 tip top. Perfection-style stripping guide. Heavy reverse-twist snakes. 3-7-3 signature wrap with olive green trim at grip and male ferrules. Thomas winding check with integeral hook keeper.
Butt-to-mid ferrule is smooth and tight with a nice ’pop’. Tip ferrules are a bit looser than I’d like, but the rod certainly stays together and the sections do not rotate during fishing. There is a casting sweep to the right through the mid... something I would easily address if I were keeping the rod but that I prefer to let the new owner attend to as they see fit. No issue in casting or fishing for me.
One tip has a repair wrap for a fracture or delam... It isn’t a scarf. Repair is sound and I almost always fished this tip. There are a few dark glue lines throughout the rod.
Rod shows appropriate wear to the varnish, ferrules, guides, etc. for a frequently fished rod of this vintage. Grip is soiled with slight ridging, but all cork is sound.
Original brass-capped tube with remnants of the Thomas label and an excellent original bag.
I love everything about these Browntone trout rods. This is a vetran rod that was used but not abused, tells stories of time on the river, and has many years of service left to give.

3" Allcock fly reel that likely dates to before WWII. Smooth and tight, no spool wobble. Full length original brass foot. This reel has a fixed check, perforated spool and brass latch cover. The handle is solid white and slightly crazed. All Allcock markings are present, including the Stag logo. Set for right-hand wind, but the pawl can easily be flipped for lefties. This is most likely a J.W. Young reel made in England.
Shiny, isn't it? This reel got a gorgeous polish job at some point in its life and looks fabulous on bamboo with bright fittings. Internal leading is still 100% One of a kind in a tough-to-find trout size. Balances shorter bamboo perfectly.

Rod is is great fishing condition. Straight, clean, complete. Slight ridging on the grip, typical hook gouges in the cork at the reel seat. Original fiber tube (missing cap) with label, original bag, and replacement tube. Ferrules fit good. This is a 4wt.
I’ve had this rod for 10 years and it’s been a sweetheart. Not really sure why I’m selling other than to raise mine for some other rods. I had a GG 9043 Aristocrat go missing, so maybe I’ll search out another...
This was the second or third bamboo rod I bought. When I bought the rod, I sent it to South Creek to go through. I still have the invoice. Looks like Kathy touched up a few wraps (‘secure stripper wrap & 1st guide on mid’), straightened some sets, re-glued the reel seat, and polished the hardware.
They also note ‘Value $1400.00’, but, you know... ha.

8’6” 4-7wt (yes that’s right - classic Walt - really more of a 5-6wt rod) 2/1 Walton Powell Hexagraph. Dark graphite finish rod. Rod is as new - still has the plastic wrap on the cork with masking tape with hand written notes in Walt’s own hand. Anodized Powell uplock seat with Walnut spacer. Red wraps, ceramic strip guide, Powell drawn NS ferrules. Original tube and sock. The notes on the tape Walt made date the blank to 1995. However, Walt did not build it out until near the end of his life - so built in 2000 or 2001. The plastic bag it came in has Walt’s business card from his last few years alive when he lived in Fall River Mills, CA. He has written on the card “Proto Hex 8 1/2 4-7wt”. This rod IS history.

No other stamping on the cap other than the (4) concentric rings. 16/10 ferrules, 0.340" at the hook keeper. 3-7-3 signature wraps. I fished it with both a 4 and a 5 DT and has a medium dry fly taper to me. Not the fast dry fly, and not altogether 'medium'. Certainly not 'wet fly'. The overall look is 'vintage', so if it was worked on (and a couple guys feel pretty sure it was), it was done quite some time ago. The only thing that makes me think that it may have had some maintenance is the Perfection-style stripping guide. The tip tops have the reinforcing tangs, but also a tube... a known early style. There was some question on if the tip tops were right when I asked around about it... seems like they're correct. Someone also thought it could be either an early rod (pre-Browntone) or a later rod that got an early butt cap when having some work done at Thomas. One guy thinks it could be a Mahogany... I don't. Another thinks it's an early rod that had the agate stripper replaced with a Perfection. That's where I lean too.
Overall great condition. One tip has a 1/2” overwrap that is almost unnoticeable. Straight and ready to fish.
